Coastal Clean Up Weekend
Wareham Harbormaster Department
54 Marion Road, Wareham, Massachusetts 02571

Volunteers Needed!!

The Wareham Harbormaster Department is proud to announce the 1st annual “Keep Wareham Beautiful” Coastal Cleanup Day! We are urging all residents to come down to the Onset Pier and lend a hand on

Saturday, April 23rd 2011, from 10AM to 3PM.

Coastal Cleanup Stations will be set up at numerous sites throughout town, collection bags and gloves for volunteers will be provided.  All marine debris collected by the volunteers will be sorted and recycled with the assistance of the Wareham Recycling Center!

Marine debris is anything that does not occur in the natural environment, including litter such as cigarette butts, cans, bottles and wrappers, and fishing equipment like fish hooks and fishing line. Debris takes years to break down in the environment. For example, a plastic bag will take between 10-20 years to decompose and monofilament fishing line takes a whopping 600 years.

This is a town wide effort so we are also asking residents and associations with waterfront property to also do your part!  If you have some marine debris that has washed ashore, just bag up the collected debris and contact the Wareham Harbormaster Department at (508) 291-3100 Extension 3186 to schedule a pick up.

For more information on how to participate in the Coastal Cleanup efforts please contact the Wareham Harbormaster Department at:

(508) 291-3100 Ext 3186 or email us at harbormaster@wareham.ma.us
