A Team Effort to Saves Lives.
The Town of Wareham Harbormaster’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct a “Safe Boater’s Day” on Saturday, September 11th, 9am – 1pm., on the Onset Town Pier.
The Wareham Harbormaster and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct a Boater’s Information Day with free materials, Vessel Safety Examinations, tours of the new Wareham Patrol Boat and the U.S. Coast Guard’s 25’ Search and Rescue Boat. On hand will be CG Auxiliary Instructors and Vessel Examiners to provide boaters with safe boating information.
There has been an increase of 17% in boating accidents in the first 6 months of 2010. This factor indicates a need for boaters to receive accurate information on how to protect lives on the water.
This community event will provide safety tips, answer boaters questions, check boats for required equipment (with no penalty for missing or defective equipment), and provide Coast Guard Auxiliary Decals for those boats passing the Vessel Safety Checks.
Representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Admission Partners Program will be on hand to speak with students and parents about attending the Coast Guard Academy.
