Water Main Flushing
Water Main Flushing Begins May 4, 2009
Chlorine to be added as precaution.

The Wareham Fire District Water Department will be flushing the District’s water mains beginning Monday, May 4, 2009.  The flushing is scheduled to continue through May and June.

Because of the nature of the work, it is not possible to predetermine how long flushing a given area will take.  Water Department crews will be flushing the system from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

This work is being done as part of the Wareham Fire District’s annual water main and fire hydrant preventive maintenance program.   Flushing removes sediment that accumulates in water pipes that could produce bacteria if not removed.  This is extremely important to Wareham since the District does not disinfect its water supply.

Customers should be aware of the potential for dirty and discolored water.  This is a temporary situation resulting from the flushing of the pipes.  The water may also be cloudy due to air entrapped in the water.  All water system users are cautioned to check the water before use for clarity.  Should you experience dirty water, simply wait for a period of time and it will clear up. We at the Wareham Fire District Water Department apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers and appreciate your understanding.

As a precaution against bacteria the water department will be adding a low dosage of chlorine to the water during flushing operations.
Anyone having any questions can call the WFDWD at (508)295-0450.
