Compost Facility Regulations

April 2018

 

Per order of the CMW Regional Disposal District Committee the compost pile located at the Marion landfill has been closed until further notice while the CMWRDD undergoes reorganization.

Due to the closure the Town of Wareham Municipal Maintenance Department will temporarily be accepting compostable leaves and yard waste during this time:

  • When:                 Second Saturday of each month
  • Time:                   8:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Where:               95 Charge Pond Road, Wareham (1/2 mile past the Wareham YMCA)
  • Compost Regulations:
  • Clean leaves and grass clippings only, any mixed trash, branches or non-compostable materials will be refused
  • All compostable products must be removed from plastic bags
  • Biodegradable paper compost bags are permissible
  • Commercial haulers are prohibited
  • Brush Regulations:
  • Brush shall be no more than 3” in diameter
  • Brush shall be cut into 3’ lengths
  • Stumps and logs prohibited
  • Commercial haulers are prohibited

Each resident vehicle using the Compost Facility is required to have a current Wareham transfer station sticker. Vehicles without a transfer station sticker may purchase a one-day transfer station pass.

Wareham resident permits and one-day transfer station passes may be purchased at the Department of Natural Resources main office located in the Multi-Service Building at 48 Marion Road, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.  A vehicle registration and proof of residency is required, contact the WDNR main office at 508-291-3100 x 3180 if you have any questions.

Alternate private disposal sites accepting residential compostable material; please contact them directly for applicable fees:
