COVID-19 NY stay at home release 3-27-20

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 27, 2020

COVID-19 Residents Who Recently Returned from New York City and Surrounding Area

Wareham has many seasonal residents that are returning to the area earlier than usual.  Some of these homeowners, tenants and visitors may be returning from New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area which have a high number of COVID-19 cases.

The Commonwealth and Town of Wareham have been taking extraordinary measures to slow the spread of COVID-19.  To that point we are asking that any resident or occupant returning from New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area to stay at home for a period fourteen (14) days.

The day you arrive(d) in the Town of Wareham is day zero and the stay at home measure shall stop after the fourteenth (14) day in town.

Today, Wareham recorded its first confirmed case of COVID-19.  This positive case serves as a reminder to perform social distancing acts including this fourteen (14) day stay at home measure.

Here are some ways to help stop the spread of COVID-19:

  • Stay home; this includes your home and property.
  • Have groceries delivered to your doorstep.
  • Avoid contact with others by keeping a distance of at least six (6) feet between you at all times.
  • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub
  • Do not touch your face
  • Monitor yourself for fever, cough or shortness of breath, which are some of the main symptoms of COVID-19.  If you develop any of these symptoms please call your doctor’s office.  If you do not have a primary care physician please call the Southcoast Health 24/7 COVID-19 Nursing Triage Hotline at 508-973-1919

Be safe and stay well.
