ATV Unit

Through a grant, the Wareham Police Department was able to purchase and fully equip two all-terrain vehicles, along with a specialized trailer to transport them to various locations throughout town. The ATVs will enable the Wareham Police Department to more effectively patrol the wooded areas, beaches, and remote areas of Wareham, as well as allow officers to respond to calls for service in areas where normal patrol vehicles are not able to access.

Officers serving on the ATV Unit have received extensive and advanced training in the safe operation of the ATVs and their capabilities.

Since being formed in the summer of 2011, the Wareham Police Department ATV Unit has conducted many patrols and responded to several incidents, including a search for lost hikers in the Myles Standish State Forest, and various call for service in remote areas of town. Officers assigned to this unit have also assisted the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Search & Rescue Team (SEMLEC), and have been assigned to traffic and crowd control duties during special events held in town during the year.
