Criminal Investigations

The Wareham Police Department Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is comprised of one Detective Sergeant and four full time detectives. Currently one detective is assigned to the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency Drug Task Force.

The primary function of the Wareham Police CID is to conduct investigations relative to major crimes and serious incidents.

The division serves as the investigative arm of the department. It is the mission of the CID to conduct follow-up investigations of crimes initially investigated by patrol officers and to perform full investigations of serious felonies such as homicide, rape, robbery, Breaking and Entering cases and drug trafficking.

The Division is responsible for the identification, apprehension, interrogation, prosecution of offenders, case clearance and the processing of stolen and recovered property.

The Division also processes all crime scenes which entails fingerprinting, photography, DNA collection and interviewing of all victims and witnesses.

In addition to all other responsibilities the unit is also tasked with maintaining the local Sex Offender Registry. The Division conducts random compliance checks with all offenders.

The Criminal Investigation Division works in partnership with multiple Federal agencies, and with investigators from the State Police, State Parole and Probation, as well as officers from surrounding cities and towns in sharing resources and personnel as well as valuable information.
